Rush Limbaugh, still furious over former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s backing of Barack Obama in the last election, told the retired general that he should “close the loop and become a Democrat.”
The incoherent Limbaugh is simultaneously claiming that Powell’s endorsement of Obama was “solely based on race,” and that Powell is only pretending to be a Republican.

Rush Limbaugh has gotten even bigger since the Barack Obama win last November, possibly due to his very public wish for the new President to “fail.” He’s achieved powerhouse status within the GOP, seemingly due to his percieved sway over the party’s base.
Here’s a recent Vanity Fair analysis. It’s long, but it’s worthwhile to read on the way to this penultimate point:
